Sambalpur is one of the major municipalities located in Orissa. It is known to be the largest town in Sambalpur District. Sambalpur is the name derived from goddess Samaleswari. The town lies 320 kms from Bhubneshwar which is the capital city of Orissa. The total population of the city is 154,164 as per 2001 census.
