Bardhaman, also known as Burdwan, is the city located in West Bengal which is one of the states in Eastern India. It is the headquarter of Bardhaman District since the time of Mughals. Burdwan is the name given to Bardhaman by Britishers and is still in use since they ruled in India. Burdwan, being the heart of Bardhaman District, is developing at rapid pace. The people living in this city have raised their standard of living and opted for better residential areas within the city. The city is located 100 kms northwest of Kolkata on Grand Trunk Road and Eastern Railway Zone. The city is located on the banks of river Damodar and Banka as both these rivers flows through the midst of the city.
Burdwan is located within an area of 7024 Sq.km.The total population of the city is 68, 95,514 as per 2007 census. It is a multicultural heritage city having lot of old temples with reminiscent of Bengali Hindu architecture.
