Sompeta is a census town in Srikakulam district located in Andhra Pradesh which is one of the major states in Southern India. The town is located at an average elevation of 26 feet (8 meters) above the sea level. The total population of the city is 20,390 as per 2001 census.

The town has a mandal headquarter in Srikakulam district. Sompeta is known to be the trading center of coconut coir as it deals in export of coirs to other states. There are three major movie theaters for the entertainment of local people or tourists coming from different parts of the country.

Sompeta is served with a railway station which is located 15 kms from the town center. Various express as well as passenger trains connects the city and serves Sompeta railway station at scheduled time intervals on daily basis. Some trains operates from major cities towns located in India and terminates at Sompeta while some trains halts for specific time intervals and departs for destination.
